i drive a transporter(work van version, 16 inches longer than a euro) which is diesel. My wife has a eurovan, diesel as well. we have both running on wvo now. ours get about 40mpg, canadian gallon, perhaps 35 us mpg. we love them, last saw one for sale in easter quebec, if interested i can find it again. i think they were not imported to the us. the diesel was no longer available after 1997. probably got too good mileage for the us consumer economy. Ford is coming out with the extinction that gets 4 mpg, 8 tons, something to be proud of. |

Hello Windmillgeorge It is good to hear that there is another wvo VW transporter out there! I thought I was the only one. It was getting a little lonely out here. I converted it back in Nov 04. It runs like a dream and it has just clocked its 10,000th Km on veggie oil last week. I would love to find out more about your conversion and where you are in the world. I am based in NB Canada. Good too know there are more of you out there. Paul |

Hi, I just saw your note about wanting to convert a EuroVan to diesel using a TDI engine. Just wondering if you heard from anyone about this. I'm very interested in doing this. Ken (p.s. I think the 'conversion' that the other writer was referring to was from regular diesel to waste vegetable oil)>How much trouble was your conversion? I have a '95 EuroVan >that has a 132k on the engine that I would like to convert >to a TDI. > >thanks

Waste veggie is the way to go. I know we love it! Take to to the VW conversion specialists, Golden Fuel Systems, check them out at greasel.com . Just ask for Alex, she's the best, but she betrayed our family and converted to a ford F-350 running on pure veggie. Anyway they will convert it for you or send you the kit and walk you through it. Its definitely worth it! Just think saving the earth and no paying for gas. |

I had one of those when I lived in the UK. Can't remember the exact fuel consumption figures but it was pretty good. It was a little noisy (I didn't panel it inside) and sluggish on the highway (it's VW bus!) but very torqey and reliable. I'd buy it again for sure if I could find one in the US. It cost around $180 to fill the tank in the UK...

I live in the States (MA) and own a '93 VW Diesel EV that I imported from Toronto the importation was not that big a deal - it can be done - but NOT for '96 and '97 models which do NOT meet DOT regs mine gets close to 30 mpg, but I could probably do better doing a major maintenance now and expecting better figures when I get it back on the road (it will also be running on SVO soon) if you want more info email rolf@ic.org peace |

update: my diesel EV has been running on WVO since April 2005 logged over 20,000km so far (not a typo, I've been driving like a maniac) no way of calculating mileage figures, but I go 3-4000km between (bio)diesel fill-ups 20 gal tank so that's at least 150km/gal of paid-for fuel van is running like a top and loving the WVO just turned over 330,000km peace out Rolf |

Anyone know of a eurovan diesel out there? I'm looking for a diesel vw camper-type van that I can do a WVO conversion on. I've been told by many that the old 1.6 L engines in the vanagons are no good for driving in the mountains at altitude (where I live in Colorado!) Anyone had experience here? |

>Anyone know of a eurovan diesel out there? I'm looking for >a diesel vw camper-type van that I can do a WVO conversion >on. I've been told by many that the old 1.6 L engines in >the vanagons are no good for driving in the mountains at >altitude (where I live in Colorado!) Anyone had experience >here? From an ad that was posted on the "Boulder Biodiesel" web site... "VW only sold diesel busses for a couple of years in the early 80's, and these came with the 1.6L engine -- good mileage, low power. In my opinion, this is a great vehicle for daily driving and short hauls, but if you want to take it for longer trips or regularly into the mountains, I'd recommend putting in a 1.9L diesel for more umph." We owned a gasoline Vanagon for a few years, with the gas 1.7-litre motor -- it would "get there", but you had to be patient (50-55 mph up the hills). A 1.6l diesel would be that much slower... (though the gas-engine Vanagon got low 20's mpg, I've heard a diesel one will approach 30 mpg highway) My 1.6-litre diesel Rabbit goes zooming up the Colo. foothills just fine, but if you push it too fast it will overheat (not sure what that's about). Been a real screamer ever since converted to a 5-speed...
