RE: The Line...and why you bug me |
"It seems to me that you are a very frightened person"
To a degree, sure. But no more than you; 'very' is an overstatement. I live life and enjoy it. I commute on the metro, travel by air, etc.
"Yes there is a risk of terrorism, but there is a much higher risk of having your ass blown away by some gun nut. Or being killed in a road accident, or getting cancer, or electrocuting yourself with a domestic appliance"
Fair point. But that means we should sit by and let terrorists have their way with us? Each of the dangers you pose is personal to me. In terrorism, we, as an entire country, have been threatened. We, as an entire country, will respond.
"It's not as serious a threat as is made out,"
Tell that the relatives of its victims around the world. Tell that to the terrorists who constantly threaten us through their rhetoric. Who train their children to hate us for no reason other than we are american.
"You are a citizen of your country by an accident of birth, not manifest destiny. Being American does not make you special. Sorry. It's the truth, no more than being a citizen of any other country. I wish you could see that. You are going to die. Definitely. Your'e children too. So am I, and everyone else too."
So what is your point? We should let some militant fuckfaces destroy what we have built?
I don't claim any special status because I am an american. I don't claim to be better than anybody else. I respect all peoples and countries equally. In fact my experience is many, not all, americans are highly tolerant of other cultures. Lets ask Muslims how they feel about living side by side with Christians.
What I do claim is the right to live in peace free from harm.
"Living in fear is not going to change that, nor will accepting fascistic control measures into your life. Might not be today, or tomorrow but it's in the post. Accept it, and move on.
Don't confuse love of my country with fear of others. You're just off base there.
