RE: The Line...and why you bug me

"Freedom is not free."

Doublespeak. 1984.

It seems to me that you are a very frightened person. Yes there is a risk of terrorism, but there is a much higher risk of having your ass blown away by some gun nut. Or being killed in a road accident, or getting cancer, or electrocuting yourself with a domestic appliace or, or, or etc. The fear of terrorism is being used to justify all sorts of repressive policies both in the US and elsewhere around the world. It's bullshit. It's not as serious a threat as is made out, and anyway, you can't have a "The War On Terrorism", because the terrorist won't fight on your terms and everytime you squeeze they grow stronger. At best it will be as successful as "The War On Drugs", which as everyone knows has not been going quite to plan. In fact the invasion of Afgahnistan has sent the heroin production of that country through the roof, flooding Europe and the U.S. with the cheapest heroin for years.

There is no coherance to the stratedgy adopted by the U.S. or Britain.
A roadmap for middleeast peace in Isreal and a similtaneous illegal occupation of another middleeastern nation. Regime change without any responsible plan for what to replace the regime with. Double standards applied everywhere. Wherever the U.S. is now people see the profit motif, which is understandable as it is in your nations interest, but when that profit motif is propped up by excessive military force, politically expedient lies and corporate greed in countries where people earn next to nothing then the current problems the U.S. faces will only intensify. Too often America appears incredibly arrogant and greedy to other nations, to the extent that what good works it may do are vastly overshadowed. A case in point is the Kyoto treaty, which is basically the GWB. saying fuck everyone on this planet cos Americans need jobs and I need those corporate campaign contributions. Pulling out of nuclerar disarmamnet treaties, threatening other countries with force unless the comply with U.S. economic interests etc. etc. etc.

You are a citizen of your country by an accident of birth, not manifest destiny. Being American does not make you special. Sorry. It's the truth, no more than being a citizen of any other country. I wish you could see that. You are going to die. Definitely. Your'e children too. So am I, and everyone else too. Living in fear is not going to change that, nor will accepting fascistic control measures into your life. Might not be today, or tomorrow but it's in the post. Accept it, and move on.
