Question about burning CD's on the pc |

I've burned a bunch of CD's using the Windows Media Player. They play fine on my home system, but they skip and stop on my girlfriends car CD player and her cheap home system (aka boombox with detachable speakers). The CD's will start to get more and more static, then they'll start skipping before stopping completely. Am I doing something wrong? I've followed all the instructions in the user guide, and in the Idiot's guide to to Windows XP. I've also noticed that when I'm playing stored music on the computer, I sometimes get a slight background static on some recordings. I don't have a CD player in my car so I can't see if it's just her player. I'm using TDK 700MB CD-R 80 minute discs, windows XP, and I have a P4 chip in my system, if that matters. Since most of the CD's are for her, I feel like a bigger idiot than usual. Any suggestions? Use a different program like Roxio maybe?
thanks in advance
~Scott
