LAST EDITED ON Apr-28-03 AT 03:04 PM (EDT) No, I am a person that wants to extend the rights and privileges we enjoy to others. Not suspend htem because we are going outside of the US. We have to set an example and that means doing the right thing no matter what. Bombing a country, invading it's towns and bringing warfare to it's cities streets is NOT the right thing to do if th eonly goal is to depose a leader.
I am not talking about the UN as a law making body. The UN is a limp dick organization. What I am talking about are basic American principles such as, now get this it may be new to you, Due Process which I feel that we circumvented.
Personally, you and the other war supporters are the ones who seem idealistic to me. That this war and war on terrorism is actually going to accomplish anything. The "axis of evil", like we are really going to be able to thwart evil villains. BAH! Utopians.
I'm merely talking about extending the system of law, order and justice that we as Americans value and enjoy to the countries who we are attempting to "liberate". I think we set a piss poor example in our international affairs. We act like children instead of adults.
'"Getting the end result that you desire is not justified when the foundation of your freedom is circumvented"
I guess that's where we disagree. I think that we are safer and our freedom is enhanced."'
Wasn't there some great American who said something to the effect of "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
So go ahead, suspend the rights and values we hold dear as Americans to achieve whatever short sighted goal you aim for. I guess the general tenets of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence can be ignored when needed to be.
Another interesting thought. A lot of rhetoric gets thrown about regarding what people in other countries think about us but when people from other countries come to this board and tell us what they think about us, they get ignored. Talk about head in the sand.
