Fitting 4" tires on 3.5" rims - clearance help Q?

by: Tom G. (38.151.226.225) on May 25, 2000 at 17:54:45

OK. So I am now trying to cure the problem of dragging my Sito Plus on sharp lefts made on my 8" Allstate with Rally 200 motor.

I do not want to go 10" on this beast unless I really have to. This is only because I like the 8" look better.

I have fitted a 4.0 x 8" tire on a stock 3.5" x 8" rim, and will try to install it this weekend, but I am afraid the tire will rub on the rear shock or clutch cover.

If the tire does rub, how can I fix this? Is it possible to shim the rim away from the brake hub a bit? I'm afraid to shim it more than a fraction of an inch, because then the hole in the rim wont be centered on the projecting boss on the hub.

Anybody ever try this? Ideas? Anyone ever make up a special, longer stud plate/flange?
