Broken ring saga continued.....

I honed my barrel out and placed the good ring inside and when held up to the light, I see a cresent of light along the ring where the other ring broke and wore a groove in the barrel. It's probably about a quarter of an inch long and maybe .015" at it's widest.
It's looks to me that compression would suffer immensely since the broken ring that caused the groove will no longer be sealing that spot.
My question: Do I have the thing bored out with possible questionable results plus the added cost of a rare GS 160 once over piston? or do I just find another jug that just might need a honing and use my old piston? OR would that be even more expensive?
When jugs are bored, are they still tapered like they were originally?
Cost doesn't drive this as much as the fact that considering shipping, possibly being f*cked up in the boring process and getting another piston, I might as well look for a nice used cylinder.
waddya all think?
