I am glad to see you are keeping the torch burning in Riverside. We had a HUGE scooter scene in Riverside back in the early to mid 1980s. Before Spanky's, we used to hang out nearly every night at my old scooter workshop off Market in the alley between 2nd and 3rd Street. I used to rent 5 garages in a residential and run a repair/restoration shop with Freddy Eddy. We would make bomb fires and drink 40s all night and the neighborhood was so shitty then that nobody cared! Denny's on Main Street (now where the jail is) was also a major hangout for both Kikstart and Ace Club. It was not unusual for 20 or 30 scooters to be parked in front on any given night - and not planned. Lake Alice used to be a small British Pub called Dagwoods and we used to hang out there quite a bit. De Anza Theatre, which is now Clark's Health foods, used to play shows quite a bit. The Targets and the Jets played in '82 - probably one of the coolest Riverside shows up until Spanky's. The Untouchables played at Raincross in '83. The UCR Barn also used to have quite a few shows. Unfortunately we also had a huge redneck factor back then and riding scooters around Riverside was very dangerous! I am working on a Website with quite a few old Riverside scooter pictures. Email me and I will send you some very funny pictures.
