2nd Gear Hard 2 Find

I'm fairly mechanically inclined but inexperienced with working on scooters. I'd appreciate a little help from those in the know. On my 180 Rally, the shifting seems to be very vague from first to second. Most of the time it seems like it wants to go straight into third gear from first. There isn't really a positive 'click' to the shifting mechanism and it seems like i have to kind of hunt for the proper position. Is this a symptom of worn-out parts in the shifting mechanism or would some simple adjustments take care of the problem? Thanks in advance.
