As far as I'm concerned, fishtailing is the act reserved for the rear wheel actually skidding out from the straight track. Yes, this is semantic bullshit, but your story sounds more to me like a jack-knife tale. Either way, it can't be much fun.

: Soon after getting my T5 disc (my first bike with an external disc) I had someone cut accross me and needed to pull a mega emergency stop. Not being used to a front brake which actually worked I ended up pulling so hard that the back wheel came off the ground a couple of inches and the back end swung round landing in a right angle to the handlebars. I'd certainly class this as fishtailing, albeit in an extreme panic induced brown trousered situation. The other unusual thing is that a Doc Martin Highlander sized dent appeared in what I'm sure was a straight Renault 21 front door panel before I had to brake. Spooky.
